Update on Randolph Street Market

I decided to stop by the market at around 2pm on Sunday afternoon while my husband was watching football at West End. (after my husband and drove past an open house we were planning on attending - but the area was horrible and we couldn't get out of our car)
The market had some goods things but the prices were high. I do plan on going to the last one on October 25-26.
My favorites included: a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk for $1500.00, antique church pew, vintage child's Cubs T-shirt for $17.00, belleek cream and sugar set for $45.00, and a ton of old school desks.
This is what I actually bought:
Fisher price doctor kit for $3.00 (I played with this kit when I was little)

Pyrex nesting beakers for $5.00

Egg Chair and more

I found this cool chair on the blog Makingitlovely. I also like her new feature called Making it Yours.

Randolph Street Market

I think I might check out this market on Saturday, but I am not fond of having to pay to get into the flea market... the Watertower doesn't charge you just to look. The focus this weekend is on vintage fashion. In my dreams, I would find a vintage Chanel necklace for around $20.00. (images are from ebay)

Jeff Koon at the MCA

see what I mean about pool toys and porn?
(more info here)

Peach Cobbler for breakfast...

is how my Sunday began. I finally made the Wicked Peach Cobbler recipe from Patti LaBelle that I found in the Chicago Tribune over a year ago. Next up, I went to the Museum of Contemporary Art for the last day of the Jeff Koon exhibit (little did I know that it would contain porn - but the rest was interesting - and contained pool toys).

On my walk home, I encountered a small art fair where I found a jeweler that I had seen last summer and really liked her pieces. (see Bead designs by Dana) I am thinking about hosting a party with her jewelry soon. (and it will give me a reason to bake - because right now when I bake my husband eats just a little and then I end up eating the rest)

(available here)

A request from my sister....

Any more requests of things to find?

Jcrew offers a teacher / student discount

I was in Jcrew yesterday trying on these shoes and I was talking to the sales person about if the shoes would be comfortable enough to wear to work. She asked where I worked and I told her. She then said the best thing I ever heard while shopping, "We offer a 15% discount to all teachers and students."
(you just need to show your id)

Freakonomics

I just finished this book last week and I found it very interesting and a little shocking (the authors correlate abortion to decreasing the crime rate). Being the last person alive to read it (or so I felt), I felt like I had heard most of the information in the book via word of mouth. I found the last 2 chapters about parenting and naming your children the most informative.

On my run last night, I was reminded that this will be taking place at North Avenue beach on Saturday:

Dean Harris for Target

I was in Target today to pick up a few things and I came across the new Dean Harris Jewelry line. I saw a few of his pieces in magazines (with peace signs) and didn't think much about them until I saw these 2 necklaces:

All of his Target pieces are made with sterling silver (some with 18K gold over the silver) and with genuine stones. The last line of designer jewelry was subversive and mostly plastic (and still $20.00-50.00).

I also like these earrings and gasped when I looked at Dean Harris' real jewelry line and found a pair similar to these for $11,705.00! (target's are $24.99)

The Human Race (Chicago)

I decided at the last minute to sign up for the 10k Nike Human Race. I hadn't ran a 10k since my last 10k in May and wanted to see if I could still finish. (keep in mind I only run 3-4 miles a few times a week - but I did finish)
3 other reasons I ran:

1. proceeds went to charity
2. I liked the race shirt
3. Fall Out Boy played in Soldier field after the race
