I have had a few questions about wedding dresses lately (JoAnn and Semi-Hipster Homeowner), so I thought I would extend the answers to everyone. I went dress shopping about 8 months before my wedding and drove to a tiny town in Michigan. Fowler to be exact - where the Subway is also in the gas station. The store is Becker's Bridal and it is packed with hundreds of wedding dresses. At least 5 of my friends have found their wedding dress at Becker's. After trying on a ton of dresses, I finally found the dress I was looking for - strapless, simple, not very expensive, and A-line. It is made my Sottero & Midgley and is style ASM 3040. (see the dress here and here) I especially liked the fact that it laced up the back so I had a little room to eat over the holidays and not worry about the dress being tight. And it was tied so tight that I didn't have to wear a bra. I also did not wear any underwear (even though my sister-in-law got me the cutest "I do" hanky panky thongs and cami) because it was just one more thing to try and figure out in the bathroom.
The idea of wearing a giant white dress never appealed to me - I would rather spend the money on a classic Dolce & Gabbana black dress (something I could wear again)- but for a traditional wedding in a Catholic church I needed to find a white dress. I found the dress on my first visit to a bridal store and while wearing black underwear. (which my mother found as I tried on this dress and she could see darkness down in that area) All of the ladies at Becker's were kind and helpful throughout the entire process of buying, ordering, and fitting. (they even stored the dress for a month and did the fitting on a weekend)

I loved how you customized your dress with the antique rhinestone pin and didn't wear the sash.
Jack and I were thinking about your wedding on New Years Eve while we celebrated at home in our PJ's. Yours was probably the best wedding reception I've ever been to.
I can't wait to go there!
I got my dress at Bridal Mansion in Lisle, IL. It was a little house (ironically) filled to the brim with gowns and loads of personal attention.
I got my dress at Becker's Bridal too, Linds! Great place, and the girls that work there are very helpful and nice.
I got my dress--nowhere...yet.
Hey Nancy - I wore Grandma Nell's pin...
